If you download the track from an online archive, verify its integrity. Drop the FLAC file into a spectral analysis tool like Audacity or Fono . Look at the frequency spectrum analyzer; if the audio waves sharply cut off at a flat ceiling of 16 kHz or 20 kHz, the file is a "transcode" (an MP3 masquerading as a FLAC). True FLAC files show organic, jagged frequency trails reaching all the way up to 22 kHz.
