The control head can be mounted in one of two ways. It can be integrated into your vehicle's custom console or mounted directly to the dash using the supplied bail-strap mounting bracket.
Use the Whelen CenCom configuration software to map the physical wires to specific button functions on the controller. 4. Key Installation Best Practices
Two 10 AWG black wires should be routed directly to the vehicle's chassis ground, ideally near the battery, to ensure a clean electrical connection. 2. Output Mapping & High-Current Leads
The CenCom Gold system consists of three primary hardware pieces that interact to control your vehicle's warning suite:
The output harness distributes power to your lightbar, perimeter lights, and auxiliary equipment. The CenCom Gold features both high-current and low-current programmable outputs. Pin Number Function / Component Wire Color (Standard Whelen) Max Current Rating Primary Lightbar Front Output 2 Primary Lightbar Rear Red / White Output 3 Grille / Intersection Lights Output 4 Side / Mirror Lights Output 5 Corner Strobes / LEDs Output 6 Left Alley Light Output 7 Right Alley Light Output 8 Take-Down Lights Output 9 Auxiliary / Trunk Lights 3. Siren and Speaker Connections
Grille lights, intersection lights, or auxiliary deck lighting. 4 Circuits
The physical wiring diagram is only half the puzzle. The CenCom Gold relies on Whelen's legacy Windows-based programming software. Once you wire an auxiliary light to "Output 1," you must open the programming software to define whether that output flashes, stays steady, or turns off automatically under certain criteria. Always print out your software configuration matrix and keep it stored with your physical wiring diagram for future fleet technicians.
