The visibility of kathoey individuals in Thai media and society has contributed to a more open discussion about gender identity and sexual orientation. However, despite this relative openness, challenges remain. Stigma, discrimination, and violence against transgender individuals and those who express gender non-conforming identities are significant issues worldwide, including in Asia.
