In a joint announcement between the Deutsches Institut für Normung (DIN) and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the content of DIN 5463, along with DIN 5461 and DIN 5462, was incorporated into the unified international standard DIN ISO 14. A withdrawn standard is one that has been fully replaced by a newer edition and is no longer valid for new designs. Consequently, the original and its subsequent versions are no longer maintained or available for purchase as active standards.

The DIN 5463 standard governs the "Medium Series" of metric straight-sided spline connections. Unlike newer involute splines (such as those under DIN 5480 ), parallel splines feature keys with straight, parallel flanks.
