Directed by Priyadarshan and produced by T-Series, Bhool Bhulaiyaa is an official remake of the 1993 Malayalam blockbuster Manichitrathazhu . The film stars as Dr. Aditya Shrivastav, a psychiatrist, alongside Vidya Balan (in a breakout role as Avni), Shiney Ahuja, Ameesha Patel, and Paresh Rawal.
Siddharth and Avni, recently married, return from America to settle in their ancestral home. Despite warnings from family members, specifically the priest, they ignore the folklore surrounding the room of Manjulika, a 19th-century dancer who was killed by a king. Soon, strange incidents occur, pointing towards a supernatural presence.
